General Information
Why should I use Wall Panels rather than Tiles?
Wet wall panels offer a compelling alternative to tiles for several reasons. Firstly, they eliminate the need for grouting, reducing maintenance efforts. These panels are non-porous, ensuring hygiene and resistance to mold. Crafted from materials like High Impact PVC, Acrylic, or Plywood, they provide versatility and style.
Secondly, High Impact PVC wet wall panels, as offered by Wet Wall Panels, are 100% waterproof and boast a Class 1 Fire rating, making them suitable for both commercial and domestic applications. Choosing wet wall panels over tiles ensures a cost-effective, low-maintenance, and durable solution with added design flexibility.
Can Wet Wall Panels be used in the Shower?
Yes, wet wall panels are designed to be used in the shower. In fact, they are a popular choice for shower enclosures and bathroom walls due to their waterproof nature. Wet wall panels are constructed to resist water, making them an ideal and practical solution for areas prone to moisture, such as showers. They eliminate the need for grout, reducing the risk of water penetration and mold growth. High Impact PVC wet wall panels, for example, are specifically manufactured to be 100% waterproof, making them a reliable and durable choice for shower applications in both residential and commercial settings.
How do you cut Wet Wall Panels?
Our Bathroom Wall Panels can be cut using any fine toothed bladed saw. For an accurate and neat finish use a Tenon Saw, although you can also use a handsaw. If you are cutting curved or detailed areas then a Jigsaw would be the saw of choice and for cutting circular apertures for light fittings, pipes etc. use a Hole Saw.
Can Wet Wall Panels be installed over existing Tiled Walls?
Yes, in many cases, wet wall panels can be installed over existing tiled walls. This can be a convenient option for renovations, as it eliminates the need to remove existing tiles, which can be time-consuming and labour-intensive. However, it's essential to ensure that the existing tiled surface is in good condition and provides a suitable substrate for the wet wall panels.
Before installation, it's recommended to thoroughly clean and prepare the tiled surface, ensuring it is smooth and free from any loose or damaged tiles. Some wet wall panel products may come with specific installation instructions, and it's crucial to follow these guidelines for a successful and durable installation.
Will Wet Wall Panels help with Condensation?
Wet wall panels themselves do not directly address issues related to condensation. However, the materials used for certain types of wet wall panels, such as High Impact PVC, are non-porous and resistant to water, which can contribute to a more moisture-resistant environment. This characteristic may help in reducing the potential for condensation issues compared to more porous materials.
Condensation typically occurs when warm, moist air comes into contact with a cold surface. Adequate ventilation and insulation are essential factors in preventing condensation in bathrooms and other areas prone to moisture. While wet wall panels can contribute to creating a moisture-resistant surface, it's important to consider overall ventilation and insulation strategies in the space to effectively manage condensation.
If condensation is a concern in your environment, it's advisable to address ventilation, insulation, and overall moisture control in addition to choosing moisture-resistant materials like wet wall panels.
Can you use Wet Wall Panels in the Kitchen?
Yes, wet wall panels can be used in the kitchen. Wet wall panels are versatile and practical, providing a waterproof and easy-to-clean surface. They are often used in various settings, including kitchens, to create a hygienic and aesthetically pleasing environment.
In the kitchen, wet wall panels can be installed as an alternative to traditional tiles. They are resistant to moisture, making them suitable for areas where splashes, spills, and high humidity are common. This not only adds a functional aspect but also contributes to easier maintenance, as wet wall panels eliminate the need for grout and are generally simple to wipe clean.
When choosing wet wall panels for the kitchen, consider materials like High Impact PVC or Acrylic, which are durable and well-suited for use in areas with frequent exposure to water and moisture. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines for installation and care to ensure the best performance of the wet wall panels in the kitchen setting.
Care needs to be taken when installing the panels near sources of direct heat such as open hobs and ovens. In this area you should use tiles, a stainless steel panel or Acrylic/Glass splashback.
How do you fit Wet Wall Panels to the Wall?
Using Panel Adhesive and/or Silicone Sealant on the back of the panels to fix to the surface, they join together using a tongue and groove system that provides a seamless finish with tight, almost invisible joins. You can also use the hidden lip on the tongue & groove to screw the panels to the wall.
Straight Edge panels can be joined together using H joint trims.
Can I fit Wet Wall Panels to the Ceiling?
There are two ways in which you can fit the wall panels to the ceiling. First of all, you can use the hidden lip on the tongue & groove to screw or staple your panels to the upper batons. Or secondly, you can glue them using panel adhesive. Allow the first panel set and then just click and glue the next panel in. Carry on with that routine until complete.
When do you use an Edging Profile?
Edging profiles are used to finish off the end edge of a panel, i.e. a three-sided shower wall kit. Also, if the panelling along a bathroom wall ended half way along, the end edge would need finishing off with an edging profile. This profile is designed to fit over either the fixing lip detail or on to square cut board. Check out our wide range of trims.
Can I fit Wet Wall Panels myself?
It is possible to fit wet wall panels yourself, and many homeowners choose to do so as a DIY project. Wet wall panels are designed for relatively straightforward installation, and the process can be simpler compared to traditional tile installation.
Always refer to the specific installation instructions provided by the manufacturer of the wet wall panels you choose, as different products may have slightly different requirements. If you're uncertain or uncomfortable with the installation process, you may want to seek professional assistance to ensure a proper and durable result.
